Part III Chapter 1
After being caught red handed by his betrayers, Winston is taken away to a cell. The room is windowless and dark, just like Winston’s spirit about life. The room also has a high ceiling. When Winston wakes up in a hopeless state, he looses all passion for his own existence. The only thing that he didn’t loose was his feelings for Julia. However, Winston is a smart man, and he knows that ‘Big Brother’ will most likely take that away from him.
Also, in this cell of deception was Winston’s neighbor Parson. Parson, who is a regular worker for big brother, was not a rebellious man like Winston. One night in his dream, Parson muttered something against Big Brother. Parson had been caught and told on by his own son. Life wasn’t fair for either man. Sometimes life isn’t fair in the present world that we live in. Laws in both worlds must be followed.
The movie "Departed" is a great example for the situations in the novel. However, no one really dies. O'Brian was a character that was working for the Big brother. He work was in 'Minister of Love' He is the one that will torture him until he changes back to old himself.
“We will meet in a place where there is no darkness.” (pg 185) This quote represents a great foreshadow for what part III will hold. It is a quote from a conversation between Winston and O'Brian and he really ended up meeting with O'Brian in a Minister of Love. Winston has faced the worst of his past life. But not yet the worst of life ahead.

Part II Chapter 7-10
In these chapters Winston tries to answer the philosophical questions, “Why is the world as it is?” He knows what it is, but he doesn’t know why. How will he ever begin to find the answer to this question? The world that he lives in has been altered. It will be extremely difficult since all the documents have been changed. Their history has been re-written. As Winston tires to tackle this question, his own world quickly begins to fall apart.
At the beginning of the chapters, Winston meets a guy name O'Brian, high ranked worker. Winston is invited to go to O'Brian's house to talk because they both seem to be rebels. At O'Brian's house, Winston realized that O’Brian has the ability to shut off the telescreen O'Brian in his room. Much reader will probably be shocked by the fact that he was able to shut off the telescreen. No one in their world was able to do that. This represents that O’Brian has much power. How many times throughout had Winston tried to shut off his TV, he always failed to do so. O’Brian must be a very high ranked official with a powerful position in society.
Winston receives a book from O'Brian. The book was called "The theory and practice of Oligarchical collectivism." At first, Winston was happy that he had something to do during his free time he had. During his time with Julia, Winston read it out loud and Julia would fall a sleep because it was a dreary book. While Winston was reading, he started to figure some answers to his big question. However, in Big Brother's world you weren't allow to think and ask 'why' to yourself or to anyone. You were just supposed to do what you're told and believed. Winston was swimming in dangerous territory.
In our present world there is always a secrete police like one in the book. Every person in this world is suspicious to every ones eye. Surprisingly, Mr. Charrington was a secret thought police that used a trap to capture rebels like Winston and Julia "Here comes a candle to light you to bed, here comes a chopper to chop off your head!"(pg 231) Whole time in the secret room, they were always being watched by the 'Big Bother'. In addition, there was neither freedom nor privacy.
Another symbolism that is in the novel was a 'paper weight glass' It was a fantasy place that only Julia and Winston wanted to live in. However, when the thought police roared into Winston's apartment, thought police broke his paper weight. As soon as the paperweight broke, Winston's life in fake world broke as well. Perhaps the chapters to come will be about Winston trying to pick up the pieces of his life.

Part II Chapter 3-6
For now Winston the new room seems like it is to be as safe haven where both Julia and Winston are protected from all of Big Brother’s rules. “So long as they were actually in this room they both felt, no harm could come to them. Getting there was difficult and dangerous, but the room itself was sanctuary.” (Pg 158) However, we all know that no such place like this in Oceania exists. Ironically, there is a rat in their room. “A rat. I saw him stick his beastly nose out of the wainscoting. There’s a hole down there. I gave him a good fright, anyway. Rats! Murmured Winston. In this room! They’re all over the place, said Julia.” (Pg 151) A rat usually represents betrayal. In this story a rat could also symbolize Big Brother. Winston is surprised that a rat was in their room, this means that Winston doesn’t think that Big Brother could be in this room. However, Julia reminds him that rats are everywhere, just like Big Brother is everywhere. Winston chooses to overlook the fact that there is rat in the room; he tires to scare it away. He doesn’t let it bother him. The rat in the room could foreshadow that someone is going to tell on Winston.

Part II Chapter 2
For some reason Winston begins to fully trust Julia. This shows that her is falling in love with her. Only love can change a person's way of life so quickly. Winston shares his feelings with Julia. Infact, he is very honest and blunt about how he first felt about her. "I hated the sight of you. I wanted to rape you and then murder you afterwards. I thought seriously of smashing your head in with a cobblestone. I imagined that you had something to do with the Thought Police." (pg 127) Winston and Julia continue to build a strong relationship full of passion and trust.Chapter two remind of a shakespeare 'Romeo and Juliet.' Winston and Julia had strong relations between them. However, the laws were that they were not permitted to hang out nor have a love affair.

The anticipation continues to grow as the woman and Winston plan to go out together for a couple of hours. They must be careful because if they get caught for being suspicious, they would be sentenced by ‘Big Brother’. The girl secretly plans to meet in a crowed area so that ‘Big Brother’ won't be suspicious of them. The girl yells out “Go to Paddington Station." (pg 121)Tuesday, March 4, 2008
Part 1

talitarian society seems to not have any respect for its citizens. In fact, the citizens are brainwashed by constant propaganda that is present everywhere. In every one's home there is a television like screen that continually 'educates' citizens about big brother's society. "The instrument could be dimmed, but there was no way of shutting it off completely."(pg 4) In addition, there are posters that read 'BIG BROTHER IS WATCHING YOU.' People are even afraid of their children because kids were taught to report any negativity towards the government. Oceania is a country that is controlled by an omnipotent leader. The citizens are just puppets that are controlled by the government.
